His Dark Materials is a trilogy of fantasy novels by Philip Pullman consisting of Northern Lights (1995; published as The Golden Compass in North America), The Subtle Knife (1997), and The Amber Spyglass (2000). It follows the coming of age of two children, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry, as they wander through a series of parallel universes.

The fantasy elements include witches and armoured polar bears; the trilogy also alludes to concepts from physics, philosophy, and theology. It functions in part as a retelling and inversion of John Milton’s epic Paradise Lost, with Pullman commending humanity for what Milton saw as its most tragic failing, original sin. The trilogy has attracted controversy for its criticism of religion.

It is basically a what if to Christian faith, believe and salvation as we know it. There have been TV shows about this, Heaven, Angels, the Rebellion (e.g. Dominion, Lucifer, Preacher) and how it’s is not what we make it to be. It’s a good show to pass the time with, as it is filled sincilating fantasy and mystery.

Dust/Dark particles as the series portrayed is the essence of life or free will. According to the Christian believe, the betrayal of man in the garden of Eden by Eve the first woman after she was tempted by the serpent to eat the apple from the forbidden tree which brought about the fall of man and the emergence of sin.

But this series portrayed dust/free will as the instigator of that event and need to keep its existence a secret but when a prophecy came to light of that event happening again, this rattled the magisterium. They are about to fail there soul mission of keeping the humans in line with the authorities will and stop the second fall which is known to end destiny and give man complete free will/make dust available and visible to all.

This series an interesting one as the story is a well told one, each episode complimenting the other, each season complimenting the other and not mumbled up, confusing or lost in telling. It was direct and understandable. It’s been a while I have seen such a wonderful scripting and acting.

Speaking of acting, one of the main character Dafne Keen (Lyra) was outstanding, she embodied her character so much it became her, this reminds me of Jenner Ortega (Wednesday Addams). I am thrilled baby the display of emotions and control especially by Ruth Wilson (Marisa Courta). The special part was the slicing through world’s by Will (Amir Wilson) using the knife, picking out threads in the ether. It felt so real as space has been a concept of particles.
