The Movie Lionheart

Lionheart, was written by Genevieve Nnaji with George Cragg as the Chief editor. The movie has its setting in Enugu, the Eastern part of Nigeria with known actors and actress such as Pete Edochie, Onyeka Onwenu, Kanayo O Kanayo, Nkem Owoh etc. all on cast.

Genevieve is the lead character of the movie with Nkem Owoh and Pete Edochie as main characters as well, making the movie one of the best thing in Nollywood recently. The story is about a daughter who must find a way to work alongside her uncle to save her father’s ailing Transport Company.

The opening scene boldly announces Adaeze (Genevieve Nnaji) influence in the film, how she was able to persuade a mob to vacate her father’s transport company. The movie also shows the challenges involve in running a company especially as a female in a male dominated industry. This was the situation Adaeze found herself as she had to step up to the challenge of saving the company from a huge loan debt incurred by her father Chief Ernest Obiagu (Pete Edochie) who had to step down due to health issues.

The portrayal of Igbo and Hausa culture in the contemporary Nigeria setting also made Lionheart a delight to watch. Nevertheless, the movie was informative and educative in portraying the typical Nigerian heritage and languages. It also displays how hospitable Nigerians could be to visitors and strangers with the level of hospitability shown to Adaeze and her uncle on their business visit to the North.

The story line of this movie was really very simple and straight forward, although the time duration of 2 hours was really long in my opinion, which is a waste in time for me. Another turn off in the movie for me is the presence of Peter from the known disbanded P-Square which is actually questionable, I mean, what was his character about? I would say it’s an unnecessary celebrity appearance.

But the generally acting and directing was really good with family dynamism well represented.
